Are Nuwaubians Racist?
On Sunday, June 18th 2006 The Athens Banner-Herald printed an article entitled “Sect Chief’s Influence Felt at Clarke Jail” written by editor Joe Johnson (joe.johnson@onlineathens.com). In the article, the former chief jailer, Brett Hart made a statement based on his own point of view saying “the Nuwaubians are a racial supremacist organization”. This is not true based on the teachings of Reverend Dr. Malachi Z. York. Rev. York wrote a book in 1994 entitled The Nuwaubian Family Guide and stated on page 70 “We accept as fact that no one race of people is better than the other. In fact no one wins the race in racism”. This saying in itself declares that Nuwaubians are not a racial, subversive, militant organization. Rev. York further states in the same book “We are a worldwide human movement for the survival, expansion, and advancement of the human race who strives to unite all human peoples of the world on the basis of facts regardless of race, creed, or language in a worldwide community”. There’s an apparent evasion by editors of various newspapers, reporters, or people like Brett Hart and the likes to quote from The Nuwaubian Family Guide book which gives details on who and what the Nuwaubians are about. Instead, the Nuwaubians are first targeted as a black supremacist quasi-religious cult without consulting the Nuwaubians themselves. In various literature, magazines, and books published by Nuwaubians, it clearly states, Nuwaubians are law abiding, God fearing citizens. On page 86 of The Nuwaubian Family Guide it states “Respect the laws of the government in which you live”. The same book also states on page 90 “Don’t join any organization that is racist or any religious group or organization that teaches hate”.
Nuwaubians are citizens with culture who practice their constitutional right under the Amendments to the Constitution of the United States, Amendment 1, Freedom of Religion but are often mislabeled and misunderstood as a cult or some black racial supremacist group. This is not consistent with Nuwaubian’s literature and guidelines. Nuwaubians are encouraged to help humanity and not belittle anyone regardless of their race or social status.
In the same Sunday, June 18th 2006 The Athens Banner-Herald article, Joe Johnson quotes an anonymous Clarke County Sheriff Deputy stating “They (Nuwaubians) think the white man’s the Devil”. The Deputy added “What gets me the most is how they were passing out information to inmates, convicted felons with no cause in life.” The anonymous deputy’s statement is not consistent with a book written by Rev. Dr. Malachi Z. York called “Are There Black Devils?” which makes it clear that “Evil” comes in all races and colors. Wrong is wrong and evil is evil despite race. The book “Are There Black Devils?” sheds light on the philosophy of other organizations’ views of “the white man’s the devil” by pointing out the many black devils and evil doers of all races. On the other hand, the anonymous Deputy’s statement shows the view point that some law enforcement officials have on inmates as having “No Cause in Life”.

Former chief jailer Brett Hart stated that the book “Was Adam Black Or White?” also written by Rev. York was “…full of racially inflammatory statements”. This is not true and it’s obvious that Brett Hart did not read the book. Close observation of the book on page 6 of the introduction states “there are a number of Negroid groups who refer to themselves as Hebrew Israelites, Black Jew, and the IsraeliChurch. In their search to try to explain the origin of the European race, the Caucasoid who they call the devil, they use unresearched racism and as I said in one of my many sayings No one wins the race in racism”. Nuwaubians should not be placed in the same category of hate groups. Nuwaubians did not come knocking on any doors but over 300 law enforcement officials went breaking down theirs. Even still, Nuwaubians continue to try to work together with everyone for the betterment of the community and humanity.
So, are Nuwaubians racist? The answer is no. In fact, Nuwaubians teach that racism is a disease that should be destroyed and those infected with this disease should not hold positions of government, whether it be county, city, state or federal. Racism must be replaced with Humanism. In conclusion, Nuwaubians state “We accept as fact that no one race of people is better than the other. In fact no one wins the race in racism” Nuwaubian Family Guide pg.70
